Winfield Celebrates America’s 250
On July 4, 1776, a determined group of American patriots signed a document declaring independence from King George III and from unjust laws which the King and Parliament had imposed on the American colonies. 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
A group of citizens are planning events to commemorate the historic event, to celebrate the foresight and bravery of the signers of the Declaration, and to remember that they committed their “lives and fortunes” to the success of the war of independence. In addition to traditional fireworks celebrated in many communities, the Winfield Band will perform a concert on Friday evening, July 3rd featuring patriotic music. Before the concert will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence, but will omit the long list of specific grievances against King George III. Readers will also present quotations from those who shaped the Declaration and urged American colonists to pledge their lives in the struggle for independence. Food will be provided before the concert at Winfield’s Island Park.
